Are you planning a wedding in 2018? If so, you need to know about these hot wedding trends!
If you’re planning a wedding in 2018, then a great place to start is of course 2018 wedding trends! After all, finding out what's going to be hot in the year you say 'I do' will be vital when it comes to planning your special day.
From gorgeous bridal wear trends and unique décor ideas, to the latest in wedding stationery, we have a mix of all the latest 2018 wedding trends you need to know about!
2018 Wedding Venue Trends
More often than not, the type of wedding venue you book will usually set the tone for your entire wedding theme.
Recently, we’ve seen a huge move towards industrial-looking venues. These types of venues tend to be more of a blank canvas, where couples can really go to town on the reception décor and make it their own. Another wedding venue trend, which has been rapidly growing in popularity, is wedding marquees. These offer even more of a blank canvas to create the perfect dream wedding - exactly how you imagined it!
Open spaces and industrialised architecture is a key trend for 2018 weddings – and we’ve really taken to this here at hitched, as it allows couples to host a modern wedding with real character. Hitched's Editor, Sarah, says: "It's becoming clear that more and more brides are looking for a unique and alternative venue to really show off their individuality.
"What's great about the rising trend for more industrial-looking locations is that you can give your day a cool and edgy feel, while still having the option to dress it in a way that's personal to you - whether that's filling the room with flowers, playing around with lighting from candles and fairy lights, or leaving it neutral for a high-impact effect".
2018 Wedding Theme Trends
We spoke to wedding planner La Fete about the key theme and colour scheme trends for 2018 weddings.
“2018 is going to be all about natural light and stripping things back to basics – we are moving towards a minimalistic look where natural light and polished details are key.”
Tying in really well with the industrial-style venue, La Fete also mentioned the appearance of copper and metallic details, marble aspects and white and green tones for any floral décor.
Wedding marquees allow the perfect amount of natural light and allow you to focus you decor on the tables etc, whilst ‘adding space’ through it ‘open’ design to prevent your wedding from feeling cluttered.
Tentickle International are the experts on wedding marquees and can offer guidance throughout your wedding planning and are known for their sublime service and products.

Looking for stretch tents for hire? Got a big event coming up and trying to decide what type of tent to hire? Not all tents are created equal and while you certainly can’t pick your weather, you can pick your perfect tent. When it comes to the toss-up of choosing between stretch tents or marquees, many prefer to hire stretch tents.
#1 They Give the Appearance of Style
A South African invention that originated from the outdoor trance dance scene in the early ‘90s, also known as Bedouin Tents and Freeform tents, stretch tents are an inspired tent style that is able to transform even the dullest of venues into stylish and magical spaces that will allow for breathtaking backdrops.
#2 Can Be Set Up Anywhere
An extremely stylish and cost-effective alternative to the traditional peg and pole marquee, stretch tents are the latest and greatest in terms of flex tent technology and are widely used for large events, such as weddings, corporate parties, product launches, fairs, festivals and special private parties. Engineered to perfection, flexible and quick to assemble, this is a tent style that will allow you to set up an event on almost any terrain, come rain, thunder or hail. Whether on a mountain top, in the middle of a forest, on a field, in your back garden, on your business premises, on the banks of a river or on the beach.
#3 Found in a Variety of Freeform Organic, Curvaceous Sculpted Shapes
One of the greatest benefits of stretch tent hire is the availability of size. Coming fully open to let in more light and fresh air in summer, or partially closed for a warmer atmosphere in winter, stretch tents can also be joined together or attached to fixed structures to create a covered space of unlimited size. One of the many reasons why so many people prefer stretch tents over marquees are for the different unique and captivating shapes that they offer. Available in the most incredible range of organic, curvaceous sculpted shapes and colours – using creative rigging techniques, we can transform any venue into a glamorous and elegant space.
#4 Waterproof, UV Resistant and Fire Retardant
Made from some of the most advanced flex fabrics in the world, these freeform sculpted stretch tents are not only 100% waterproof, but they are also UV resistant and fire retardant, ensuring that they are immune to just about every type of weather element.
#5 Stretch Tents Offer a Brilliant Branding Opportunity
Fundamental to ensuring maximum brand exposure – every corporate understands the power of branding. Events not only play a vital role in building a corporation’s image, but they also play a huge role in marketing and branding strategies, which is where stretch tents are so advantageous. Ideal for displaying your brand for the entire festival, conference or expo to see – stretch tents can be used to bring your product or company branding to life.

WHEN TO RENT A WEDDING TENT
It’s important to factor in whether you will need to rent a wedding tent early on in the planning process. When you’re looking at venues, you’ll want to factor the pricing of the tent into any venue that doesn’t have indoor options. Essentially, if you’re considering outdoor venues and there is more than a remote chance of inclement weather on your wedding date (I think pretty much the entire Eastern Seaboard?), renting a tent should be lumped into the “book your venue” task on your to-do list. Tents can sometimes be expensive (depending on a number of factors we’ll talk about below), so you’ll want to factor it into the budget before you fall in love with your dream venue.
Okay, so now what?
FIGURE OUT ROUGHLY WHAT SIZE WEDDING TENT YOU’LL NEED
If you’re early in your planning process, you may not have exact numbers yet, and you may not have determined what style of party you plan on hosting (sit-down, buffet, cocktail, punch and pie, etc.). However, you’ll want a rough estimate at this point to get a price quote. This spreadsheet will give you a basic rundown of how much square footage is needed for various types of events.
As a general rule, you’ll want to choose the squarest tent your site will allow. A squarer tent will have a taller ceiling, which in addition to looking better will also keep the tent cooler. Also, it’s much easier to make sure that all of your guests feel included when you’re seated in a squarer shaped tent.
Hooray. Step one is done!
DETERMINE WHAT TYPE OF TENT YOU WANT.
There are several styles of tents available for rent—but the most popular are frame tents, pole tents and stretch tents. There are three main considerations to take into account when it comes to which type of tent you rent—space logistics, aesthetics, and (of course) budget.
Pole Tent Pros and Cons
Frame Tent Pros and Cons
Stretch Tent Pros and Cons
THINK ABOUT WEDDING TENT EXTRAS…
If you have a pretty good idea of the size and type of tent that you want, before getting a price quote it’s important to think about all of the extras that you might need or want. These extras can cause your price quote to vary greatly.
Clear top tents are a very popular alternative to white tents and generally don’t cost much more. However, keep in mind that if any portion of your event is taking place during the daytime, the sun can turn your clear top tent into a giant, sweaty greenhouse.
Now that you have a pretty decent idea of what you’re looking for, you can reach out to rental companies for quotes, but where do you find them? Ask around—your caterer and venue should be able to provide you with some reputable options. Otherwise, a google search for “event rentals + your location” should yield a ton of results—just check out online reviews for an idea of who provides quality service.
When you reach out to companies for quotes, you’ll want to make sure the following items are covered in the proposal:
Also, make sure that you’re okay with the change/cancellation policy. There are so many variables that can change between booking and the wedding, you’ll want the option to change the size of the tent or possibly cancel it if the weather looks like it’s going to be totally amazing. Make sure that those points are covered in writing before handing over any money!
When getting a quote ask how long the setup time will take. On average a 40 x 80 foot pole tent takes approximately four and a half hours to set up. If it’s a possibility at your venue, you may want to have the tent onsite and ready to go a few days prior to the wedding—this way you’ll have time to decorate and play around with the floor plan.
Find out if the company will come out to survey the land prior to the event. Some companies charge a nominal fee to do so (which is usually counted towards your rental fee if you sign a contract), but you might find the peace of mind worth it!
Make sure that the vendor knows the tent is for a wedding (and that you’re expecting wedding quality as opposed to a county fair tent—unless that’s your thing).
And finally, if possible, rent from a company that does more than just tent rentals. Many rental companies are full service offering everything from the tent to the glassware. If you rent the majority of your items from one place there will be one delivery charge, one vendor to wrangle, and from a timing perspective, everything will arrive all at once. Here are a few actual quotes my clients have received in the past twelve months:
REVIEW YOUR QUOTES AND BOOK A TENT COMPANY!Keep in mind if you get a quote that seems “too good to be true” compared to the other quotes that you receive, odds are it is. Most rental companies will come in around the same price. Your decision should really boil down to who has the most aesthetically pleasing choices, and who was the easiest to deal with (because that will seriously come in handy later). Include a quote from Tentickle Stretch Tents UK, you will not regret it.

Marquees epitomise everything an English summer wedding stands for. They are timeless, elegant and can offer complete flexibility when creating a bespoke space for your wedding day.
Marquees are a blank canvas and you need to be bold in your decisions when designing their internal decor. What most people forget is the power of flowers and how they literally can turn a simple marquee into something magical and completely unique to you and your wedding.
As a florist I have learnt that there are a few key factors when creating floral designs for a marquee. So here are my top five for your consideration.
1) High and low
One way to create interest and intrigue is to mix up the height of focal points. To achieve this you need to vary the heights of your table centres throughout from low candle arrangements to high pomander balls. This will create a range of heights and therefore focal points which will force your guests eyes to travel around the room.
2) Swing from the ceiling
Combining the height of your marquee and beautiful floral design can create spectacular focal points. Consider giant flower bombs suspended above your guests or a ceiling covered in suspended blooms. Don't forget you can decorate the tops of traditional marquee poles, create floral chandeliers and set up hanging flower beams perfect for decorations over the top table.
3) Bring in the garden
One easy and immediate way to link the inside of the marquee to its outdoor location is to install potted living trees, shrubs and plants. Placing these planted pots around entrances, the bar or even the dance floor will add a level of interest and help distinguish different areas within the marquee.
4) Budget vs impact
People automatically imagine that creating a visual spectacle with flowers will be costly and I will admit that it can be. But, this is where it is so important to work with your florist and discuss where your budget is best spent. For me this is vital and careful consideration on where you are going to spend your budget will make or break the look of your marquee. For example; do you put a standard and average table decoration on each of your fifteen tables? Or would you be better spending that money on just seven breathtaking table arrangements, which are just so beautiful people can't take their eyes off them? This is where you should work with your florist and let them come up with a number of suggestions for you.
5) Other than roses
Don't believe that floral design has to be just flowers, you can work with your florist to create alternative designs, which most of the time can spread the budget further. Flower bombs of Autumn foliage can look just as beautiful as one filled with roses! You can create height with vases of bare winter twigs or seasonal table centres with forced bulbs.
Finally, I truly believe that flowers turn a marquee into something truly magical if used properly. It is always important to coordinate your entire look with lighting, linen, chairs, carpet and draping. This is why I would always suggest that whichever florist you choose, make sure that they work closely with your marquee company so together they can create a final look that is better than you could have ever imagined.

Mariage pluvieux, mariage heureux.

Today’s post is written by the super cool Deirdre McGinnis from Chic & Boutique Wedding Venues. Deirdre curates only the coolest, hippest and most fabulous wedding venues on Chic & Boutique and I’m thrilled that today, especially for Smashing The Glass, she’s picked out ten extraordinary outdoor wedding venues in the UK. These ten gorgeous al fresco gems cover every kind of style and taste, and are suitable for capacities of 50 to 500.
Do you dream of getting married outdoors under the British skies? Are you a child of nature? The sort who longs to commune with the outdoors and feel the weather on your face, even if it is British weather? Believe it or not, London and the UK have a veritable bounty of outdoor venues available for wedding receptions and ceremonies, and I’ve picked out my top ten today, for your perusal.
Whilst the venues we’ve selected here can’t offer you, say, a Malibu sunset, what they can offer you is a fresh, open air experience alongside the beautiful elegance of an English Wedding. If you’ve ever considered having your chuppah outdoors, you absolutely need to acquaint yourself with these fabulous al fresco venues.
KEW GARDENS, RICHMOND, SURREY
(MAX CAPACITY 400)
If there’s an Elvis Presley of Botanical Gardens then the Royal Botanic Gardens of Kew would truly be the ‘King’.
Kew’s Palm House is a vast, light, lofty space that accommodates enormous tropical large palms, boasts 16,000 panes of glass and is considered the most important surviving Victorian iron and glass structure in the world. The Palm House is the most original backdrop for your outdoor wedding that could take place in one of the four venues on offer at this multi-venue location.
First, offering the perfect outdoor experience, is Cambridge Cottage, which is the former royal residence of the Duke of Cambridge.
